Directories don’t always bring a lot of traffic to your site. It all helps. But they do bring the SEO benefit of inbound links. Finding the directories is not always difficult, submitting information is usually so simple that you could do it in your sleep (unless they have one of those “anti-spam verification codes” which, to be honest, get the better of me most of the time), but keeping the momentum up to actually manually submit your website details is often the hardest part. To help you along the way I will show you how to cut the time you spend on directory submissions to a fraction of the norm. Visit Roboform and download the free version of their password manager and form filler. Don’t worry about privacy issues, there is no Adware or Spyware contained within their software (PC Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times all give the software glowing reviews). Once you’ve downloaded RoboForm you will need to create an identity. It only takes a couple of steps… Step 1.
Fill in your full name, phone number, and email address Step 2.
Fill in your Company Name and Website address Step 3.
Fill in Address Line 1, Address Line 2, City, and County* * The above assumes that you are an Irish based company. You will be given the opportunity to highlight your country of residence at the set-up stage after downloading the product. Roboform will give you specific options for different countries. Step 4.
Fill in the “custom” field names. Title , Description, and Keywords are the most commonly requested details for a Directory Submission. The “Title” should be carefully chosen by you to help the major search engines understand and accordingly rank you for the text that you chose within search engine results. This is known as “anchor text”. To develop on this a little bit further… if your company is called GizUsAJob.com and you specialise in recruitment then your title should be a reflection on what your company does (e.g. Recruitment Consultants). Description is simply what your business is all about. Roboform will help you from having to manually type out long descriptions every time you enter in the details, or even avoid you having to copy and paste from a notepad file (what I used to do… faster, but not even close to how easy this is). Keywords are sometimes used by directories to allow visitors to browse through the results pages using a search box. Fill this field value with all of the terms that you feel are relevant to your website.
That’s it. Just click on “Save & Close” and you spent 5 minutes to save yourself hours of directory submission work. You will see that there is now a toolbar at the top of you screen with an button image of a little man in a shirt & tie. Beside this is your profile name. Once you come to a directory form that you want to fill in just click this button. Like magic your form is filled in with all the relevant and required information in a blink of an eye. Once you fill in the first form you will see what I mean by a time-saving technique. There is a PRO version of the software available for purchase on the site. My advice is to see how you get on with the FREE one and have a look into upgrading it if you feel like you need more customization. Have fun and spread the word… not to your competitors of course.
